The broader concept of landscape connectivity is linked to Landscape Ecology. As we go up the ladder of what composes the biological world, landscape occupies the position between biome and ecosystem. The landscape represents the relation between the spatial organization of several ecological processes in time.

I call it the plane of time and space where life exists and moves. And therefore — connectivity — would be the degree of connection between these planes. Animal movement and other wildlife ecological processes (e.g predation) rely on the degree of connection between these planes.

Landscape connectivity becomes the measure of how permeable a landscape is for wildlife movement and other ecological flows. Ecological processes are broken if connectivity is low or nonexistent. Therefore, cause-effect is interrupted, and the function of a landscape changes. For example, if a forest is cut down and new urban settlements are implemented we will change the function from temperate forest area to intensive
